When asked how he came to the concept for the design, set designer David L. Arsenault responded:

“The concept for the set is that the piece takes place in an old, dusty, abandoned Russian theatre — a shell of what it once was. When the actors enter the space carrying all of their belongings, they breathe new life and energy into the space, thus making it beautiful again.”
